Evaluate QuickTransit Now

Transitive provides a convenient solution known as QuickTransit Workstation for situations where individuals would like to take Solaris/SPARC applications with them on the road, or use them at locations that are remote from the original SPARC-based server hosting the application. As its name implies, QuickTransit Workstation is ideal for deployment on a desktop PC or laptop, for individual users who wish to access a specific Solaris/SPARC application without being constrained by the hardware limitations of a traditional server environment. As with most desktop applications, it is typically run on demand (rather than 24x7) when required by the user, and it is quite often deployed within a virtual machine or partition for convenience.

A wide variety of internally-developed, open source or commercially-created Solaris/SPARC applications can be run in QuickTransit Workstation, but it is ideally suited to interactive applications and the types of specialist workloads that may have previously been run on traditional SPARC workstations. In many cases, customers have no imminent plans to port the original application from the Solaris/SPARC environment, so QuickTransit Workstation simply adds an extra dimension of portability and convenience to a workload that would otherwise be tied down to the server room.

QuickTransit Workstation is also a convenient way for customers to evaluate the QuickTransit technology or set up a pilot project. In this way, they can try out internal Solaris/SPARC applications on a laptop or desktop PC before ultimately deploying these applications to a server environment on QuickTransit Server. In other words, QuickTransit Workstation is a great starting point for anyone interested in becoming familiar with the technology prior to a more widespread deployment.

QuickTransit Workstation can be purchased directly from the Transitive Web site, or by contacting the Transitive Sales team or the Transitive global network of reseller partners.

QuickTransit Workstation is configured for a laptop or desktop PC with a single processor socket, or it can be deployed in a virtual machine configured with a single virtual CPU. Customers wishing to take advantage of the power of additional processor sockets or multiple virtual CPUs can use the QuickTransit Server product.

QuickTransit Workstation will support Solaris/SPARC applications migrated from systems running Solaris 8 and above. When a solution is required for older legacy applications (such as those migrated from Solaris 2.5.1 or Solaris 2.6 systems) then it is necessary to deploy the QuickTransit Legacy product. Both QuickTransit Server and QuickTransit Legacy can be purchased directly from the Transitive Sales team or from Transitive global network of reseller partners.

“ Most enterprises have deployed a diversity of platforms within their IT infrastructure, based on a number of chip types, over time. The technology solution that Transitive has provided creates a different path for customers who want to migrate key applications from one server platform to another, as they work to consolidate workloads and to virtualize workloads across the enterprise. ”
